Sugarplum Sangha

Beginning Anew

A five-day mindfulness retreat

in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

Dec 28 - Jan 1

The Mariposa Institute

suggested donation: $175 - $350

The new year invites us not only to look at our own lives afresh and restart with renewed aspiration and joy, it is also an opportunity for the Sugarplum Sangha to celebrate another year of life as community at the Mariposa Institute and look forward to another year coming with growth, connection, challenges, and Sanghahood. Please join us for five days of deepening wholeness and community building as we practice to re-establish kind and loving connection with ourselves, our dear ones, and the world that supports us.

This retreat will be offered in the Plum Village tradition of Engaged Buddhism and facilitated by Dharma Teacher Jo-ann Rosen and Order of Interbeing member Jonathan Borella with support from Sugarplum Sangha residential and community members. On Arrival Day, we'll take time to cultivate noble silence and settle into community space in mindfulness, concentration, and insight. We then have three whole days to practice sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful eating, deep listening and loving speech, and dharma talk and activities so that we can begin anew with ever expanding spheres of relationship. The retreat will conclude with a day of ceremony to transmit the Five Mindfulness Trainings, express aspiration and committment, and plant the seed for connection with each other across time and space.

The Sugarplum Sangha is committed to making our retreats accessible for people of all financial backgrounds. We invite retreatants to pay as they are able, and do not turn anyone away for lack of funds. The costs we need to cover for this retreat are for lodging, food. We suggest contributions on a sliding scale from $175 -$350.  Financial donations support the residential practice at Mariposa and provide financial assistance for retreats. Because Sugarplum doesn't charge for activities, dana is vital to making our activities available. Sugarplum Sangha is a project of the Mariposa Institute, which is a non-profit organization. Please consider your financial situation and contribute the most generous amount within your means, remembering that the greatest gift you give is your presence and your practice.
