Sugarplum Sangha

Community

The Sugarplum Sangha is comprised entirely of non-Sugarplum elements. Our Caretaking Council shares their energy to help shape our direction and organize events and retreats at Mariposa, in the Bay area and beyond. Our residents live at Mariposa, coming together each day to practice sitting meditation, chanting, and sharing, and planting the seeds of a lay Plum Village community and practice center. We could not exist without the Mahasangha (the greater Sangha community); these groups have created the conditions for our growth and continue to nourish our practice.

Most importantly, the Sugarplum Sangha is comprised of you: people who have joined together to practice coming back to the present moment and nurturing compassion in the past; who are practicing with us now; who have not yet come to practice with the community. Thank you!

Plum Village

Plum Village, near Bordeaux in southwest France, is the largest international practice center in the Plum Village tradition, and the first monastic community founded by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) in the West. Plum Village is where Thay has realized his dream of building a Beloved Community: creating a healthy, nourishing environment where people can learn the art of living in harmony with one another and with the Earth.

Deer Park Monastery

This 400-acre sanctuary rests peacefully in the chaparral mountains of southern California, surrounded and protected by oaks and the natural landscape. It was established in July 2000 by the Plum Village four-fold Sangha. Now, it is a safe and serene refuge for many practitioners to come and learn the art of mindful living and to practice with a community of monastics and lay people.

Community of Mindful Living

The CML is a network of lay sanghas that spans cities and towns across Northern California. Guided by seasoned Dharma teachers and experienced Order of Interbeing members, the CML gathers regularly for weekly meditation practices and periodic retreats.

Wake Up

Wake Up is an active global community of young mindfulness practictioners, aged 18-35, inspired by the teaches of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. We come together to practice mindfulness in order to take care of ourselves, nourish happiness, and contribute to building a healthier and more compassionate society.
